Kasane:

Derived from the Subiya word "Masane" meaning "Waterberry tree" (Syzygium guineense). Kasane forms the junction of four countries: Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. It is also the site of the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers.

It is along the banks of the Chobe River that the Waterberry trees (Syzygium guineense) are found. Kasane boasts an array of shops, garages, banks, river lodges and one of Botswana's international airports.

Kasane is the administrative center of the Chobe district and is very close to the Chobe National Park, due to the lack of fences in the Park, many animals can be seen wandering through the streets and campsites of this small border town. In days past colonial administrators used the two hollow Baobab trees situated behind the Police Station as a prison cell and the prison kitchen.

Kasane is the perfect base for explorations into the Chobe National Park, and the surrounding three countries. For years tourists have been using Kasane as a gateway to the Chobe National Park and it was from this town that David Livingstone made his greatest ‘find’, Lake Victoria.

Kasane has its own airport. This is used mainly by charter flights, taking people deep into the Delta or the Southern Chobe. Most international arrivals use Victoria Falls which is only 40 minutes’ drive away, in Zimbabwe. Like Maun, Kasane has a wide range of tour operators and facilities such as banks, hotels and lodges.
